We are reaching out to the community for much-needed assistance.
Carolyn and Brandon Miller are a lovely couple with two wonderful boys, Timmy who is 12 years old, and Oliver who just turned 11 while hospitalized in the ICU due to complications from the flu because of his very rare condition, SMA1-2. Because of his condition, he was unable to overcome the respiratory complications of Flu-A and required lengthy artificial ventilation and a subsequent tracheostomy to help him breathe. Oliver and his mom, Carolyn, have spent several weeks at Franciscan's Children's Hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, after spending several weeks at Maine Medical Center, while Brandon cares for Timmy who requires 24/7 care due to his very rare condition, Arthrogryposis.
Due to hospital policies, Brandon and Timothy can only visit until 8 pm, and due to the expense of staying in the Brighton area, they have been traveling back to the southern Maine area almost every night. This traveling has become their lifeline as a family. Recently, their vehicle, an older model Pathfinder, became unsafe to drive. They found a Subaru, which they discovered was unsafe to drive after only one trip.
Our goal is to raise $7,500.00 to allow them to find a vehicle that is road safe, as well as big enough to transport the two boys and their wheelchairs. Anything extra that is raised will go towards finding a housing opportunity to allow them to be in an area that will meet the medically complex needs that both children require at this time. Oliver is expected to be at Franciscan's Children's Hospital until at least August.
We thank you so much for your consideration in helping this family, every little bit helps. Carolyn and Brandon give everything to care for their boys and this recent journey has been a long road.
