Hello!
We are a family of three adults, two being disabled dependents, and our landlord has decided to sell our home. He has given us the chance to purchase it first, but we have, like so many people, been struggling to make ends meet and do not have the money saved up to do so. One of our household members, Ev, is not well enough to move, as she is struggling with ehlers-danlos syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome. Edwin, a senior adult with moderate autism and a worsening palsy, is struggling as well.
The bank is willing to work with Michael, an Air Force veteran and the provider in our family, but he is ineligible for a VA loan due to some difficulty with a student loan forgiveness scam he fell victim to some time ago.
We have been able to quality for a grant to partially cover the closing cost, but the total is going to be around $24,500 in order to close, and the house itself is in need of a few repairs as well. The landlord is willing to sell the house for what it has been appraised at- $270,000- and it is our only chance at securing a good, livable home at this time. Cheaper houses in the area tend to have a lot of major repair issues, and most get snapped up almost immediately by LLCs.
Our home is the former courthouse for our little village. We have lived here for 5 years. Before that, we spent our life savings, with some help from friends, and moved across the country from California to Syracuse in the middle of the pandemic because the landlord there had to sell the house, then had to move again a year later when the new landlord decided to sell THAT house.
Now we are all aging, rent is astronomical, even in a depressed area like this, and would have a very difficult time moving again.
So, if you are willing and able to do so without causing difficulty for yourself, any bit of help would be deeply appreciated!
