A sad farewell to a Thornbury icon
When I read Jess and Malia's letter to Thornbury below, I felt heartbroken.
As a Thornbury local trader and friend of the girls I can't imagine the High St without them.
Please read the letter before you continue and it will set the context for this Go Fund Me.
Another business broken by Covid.
Another business that was firmly established and thriving brought to its knees by the trying to survive lockdown after lockdown. Please understand that this is not an attempt to single out one business that needs support more than others but a gesture of goodwill that acknowledges that we are all in this together and here to help each other when we can.
Nola's, previously Brother Alec, is closing its doors for good on 22 August.
If you can't get to the store to buy a coffee or something delicious to eat at home you might like to make a small donation here. Even $5 will be greatly appreciated and will help these legends pay their bills, pay their staff and enable them to take a breath for a week when they say their final farewell to Thornbury on 22 August.
If you can't donate, please don't stress.
Send them a message of support or drop by and give them a wave.
Your positive energy and love is equally as important.
“If you’re brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello”
Dear Thornbury,
Following 10 years of trade, it is with great sadness that the time has come to say goodbye to our little shopfront but continue on with our Event Catering.
No one could have prepared us for what the last 18 months has brought us. It’s with heavy hearts and a great deal of sadness that we have made this decision.
This pandemic has broken us. We’ve tried everything we can but after rebuilding many times over, the weight of it has finally taken its toll. Our final day of trade will be Sunday August 22nd.
Through this huge transition, we humbly ask for your help.
Never more than this last year and a half have we seen the true community spirit Thornbury has to offer. We hope you will come down, bid 719 High Street farewell and help us to go out with a bang!
It has been an absolute pleasure and honour to serve you here in both forms. First as Brother Alec, then as Nola’s Foodstore, we have absolutely loved and cherished being a part of this beautiful community.
We look forward to when restrictions ease enough that we can continue our Event Catering and join you in life’s biggest celebrations. Our website has all the details you need to book us for your next function, and you’ll always see our faces round these parts.
Thornbury, thank you for all the love. The hugs, the visits, the smiles…they have meant the world to us. We will always hold this time so dear to our hearts.
Love,
Malia and Jess
