This summer, a small group of missionaries had the opportunity to travel to Honduras on a mission to bring hope and fill the needs of those less fortunate than us that share our world. During this experience we had the opportunity to meet a humble family that desperately needs our help.

On the mountainside of Honduras resides an indigenous population of the Lenca. A community struck with poverty and illness, and with no real access to medical attention of any kind, in which our friend Mercedes lives. While once full of strength and drive to provide for his family, after suffering a stroke 6 years ago, he was unable to reach medical attention due to his financial situation and the location of his home. Now he lies paralyzed from the neck down, bedridden and at the care of his elderly wife. His world, once filled with activity and purpose, has now been reduced to the four walls of a dark room.

Mercedes and his family, including a small 9-year-old boy, face unimaginable daily challenges, not just from his physical condition. Water is not easily accessible, food is scarce, illness is difficult to treat, but perhaps hardest of all for Mercedes is living without power. No fans to cool him as he lies in his bed, no light after sunset, no way to communicate with anyone outside, or power essential equipment. In a place where every small comfort is a luxury, having electricity could mean everything for him and his family.

This campaign’s mission is simple but life-changing: to raise the funds needed to bring electricity to Mercedes’ home. With your help, we can light up more than just a house, but also light up the hearts of a family who truly needs it.
