For the past three years, my mom has lovingly cared for my grandma, who battled Alzheimer’s, while also caring for my aunt Shawn, who has special needs. Recently, our family experienced a devastating loss when my grandma passed away. With her passing, my mom is now Shawn’s legal guardian and full-time caregiver.
Shawn is grieving in a way that is incredibly deep and painful. She and her mom were inseparable for 58 years — they lived together her entire life. Her mom wasn’t just her parent, but her constant, her comfort, her entire world. Losing her has left a void that Shawn is struggling to understand and cope with.
Because of Shawn’s condition, traditional therapy is not a realistic option. What does bring her comfort, peace, and happiness has always been animals — especially dogs. Dogs make her feel safe. They calm her, give her companionship, and provide unconditional love in a way nothing else can right now. We truly believe that a companion dog or puppy could help ease her depression, give her routine, and help heal her heart during this incredibly difficult time.
With funeral expenses taking a significant portion of their funds, we are humbly asking for help to cover the cost of adopting the right companion dog for Shawn. Every donation, share, or kind word means more than we can express.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping Shawn find the loyal best friend she needs as she navigates life without her mom.
