Utopia – The Equinox Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creating a nature-centered community that supports individuals experiencing homelessness and youth aging out of foster care with shelter, stability, and a path forward.
My name is Kimberly, and I’m the founder of Utopia – The Equinox Project.
This vision didn’t come from a boardroom or a textbook. It came from listening—really listening—to people who were tired of surviving and running out of places to turn. It came from watching young adults age out of systems that promised support, only to be handed independence without a safety net. It came from believing that we can build something better if we’re willing to slow down, look people in the eye, and design care with intention.
Utopia is my commitment to doing just that.
This project is still early, but it is real. We are officially recognized as a nonprofit. We have structure, leadership, and a growing network of support. What we need now is help taking the next step—securing land, building infrastructure, and turning this vision into a living, breathing community.
If you’re here, reading this, thank you. Whether you donate, share, or simply witness this beginning, you are part of it.
Utopia began as a question that wouldn’t leave me alone.
What if the people we pass every day—sleeping in cars, on porches, in tents hidden between trees—aren’t broken at all? What if they’re exhausted, displaced, and running out of places where they’re allowed to exist?
I live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I’ve watched shelters fill beyond capacity. I’ve listened to people explain how one injury, one lost paycheck, one moment of grief unraveled everything. I’ve seen how fast a life can tip, and how slow help can arrive. Somewhere between those two realities, Utopia was born.
Utopia is designed for people at the edge of transition—those already without housing, and those standing at the cliff’s edge before the fall. Each year, young adults age out of the foster care system with little more than a deadline and a hope that things will work out. Many don’t. Without stable housing, mentorship, or community, they are pushed directly into survival mode.
Utopia offers an alternative path: a place where young adults can learn, grow, and stabilize before the ground disappears beneath them. A place where adulthood isn’t a sudden freefall, but a guided crossing.
Utopia – The Equinox Project is a nonprofit created to offer something both simple and rare: a safe place to land, rebuild, and remember your worth.
The vision is an intentional, nature-centered community—land with small pop-up homes, gardens that feed the people who tend them, walking paths lit softly at night, and willow trees that invite stillness. It’s a place where survival is not the only goal. Healing matters here. Dignity matters here. Growth matters here.
Utopia isn’t just about shelter. It’s about support that meets people where they are: – Help obtaining vital documents and navigating systems that often feel impossible
– Transportation to appointments, interviews, and opportunities
– Life skills, education, and creative expression
– On-site mental health and trauma-informed care
– Mindfulness, grounding practices, and space to breathe again
This project was built with the belief that people do better when they are treated as people, not problems to be managed.
I’ve taken the first steps. Utopia is now an officially approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit. A board has been formed. The groundwork is real. What’s missing—and what this fundraiser is for—is the next leap: securing land, building infrastructure, and turning vision into soil-and-wood reality.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps move this from an idea to a refuge. Every share helps find the people who believe, like I do, that compassion can be organized. Every act of support says: we don’t have to accept a world where so many are left behind.
Utopia means “no place.” But I believe it can become a very real somewhere. A place where people can rest. A place where lives can reset. A place where community remembers how to care.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for believing. Thank you for helping build something kinder.
How Your Donation Helps
Our initial fundraising goal is $25,800. This amount is designed to help Utopia – The Equinox Project take its first major steps toward becoming a physical, living community.
Please note that GoFundMe applies standard payment processing fees (approximately 2.9% + $0.30 per donation). Setting our goal at $25,800 helps ensure that, after these fees, we can still reach our true working target of $25,000 for the project.
Every contribution—large or small—directly helps turn this vision into reality. Your support is not just a donation; it is an investment in prevention, dignity, and community for individuals experiencing homelessness and youth aging out of foster care.
Where the Funds Go (Transparency Section)
Funds raised through this GoFundMe will be used to lay the foundation for Utopia – The Equinox Project, including:
• Securing land in or near Lancaster County, PA for an intentional, nature-centered community
• Preparing infrastructure for small pop-up homes and shared spaces
• Developing gardens and food-growing systems to support self-sufficiency
• Creating safe, welcoming outdoor areas for rest, reflection, and community connection
• Establishing transportation, document assistance, and program partnerships
• Supporting trauma-informed care, mental health access, and life-skills programming
Utopia will serve individuals experiencing homelessness and youth aging out of foster care, many of whom face housing instability the moment support systems disappear. This project exists to close that gap before it becomes a crisis.
This fundraiser isn’t about charity—it’s about participation.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like to help build something instead of just reacting to crisis… this is that moment.
Your donation helps turn land into shelter, space into safety, and transition into possibility.
Your share helps this vision reach the people who know we can do better.
Your belief helps prove that community is still one of our most powerful technologies.
Utopia is growing.
Thank you for helping it take root.
