A place to call home for South Press
Donation protected
We need a new place to call home, and the security that comes with it! South Press is a social sober queer designated safe space. Located in the heart of Southern Appalachia South Press stands as the only all ages safe space for LGBTQIA+ people. South Press was founded by, and is managed by a transgender woman named Joslynn who has a long history of community organizing. She created South Press to be a safe haven for those folks in our society who have not been loved and cared for properly. South Press has grown over the last two years from the original 800 square foot shop, to it’s current 2800 square foot location. Although South Press has invested $40,000 into renovating and bringing it’s currently location up to city codes; our landlord has decided not to renew our lease. As a result we are in desperate need of a new location. We do believe we have found it but as always moving comes at a cost. Ideally we would be able to buy the new location to ensure South Press lives on for a very long time to come. South Press has become a staple in the Knoxville, East Tennessee, and greater region of queer communities. It’s existence has become more than just a community want, it has become a need for those who desire a deeply interconnected sense of community. I know times are especially difficult, but I am hoping by casting a wide net that perhaps we can raise the funds we need to secure the new space, and also retrofit it for our needs. If ever there was a time to rally together to help OUR community safe space Pride month is it! Happy PRIDE ya’ll! Donate if you can, and please share either way. Stay safe. Love ya’ll!
