A New Home for a Resilient Single Dad
Donation protected
My dad is a single father of five and one of the strongest people I know. He lives with an extremely rare nervous disorder that prevents him from feeling pain, and even more dangerously, his body doesn’t heal itself. Over the years, this has led to devastating consequences: he has already lost a leg and all of his toes, and just recently found out one of the bones in his foot is shattered, yet he still pushes himself to walk to take care of my younger siblings. As if that wasn't enough, he also has debilitating spasms that make working impossible, and his motor skills are getting worse every year.
Despite everything, he continues to provide for my family on less than $16,000 a year through Social Security, and is doing an amazing job at it. For the past seven years, he and my siblings have been stuck living in a trailer that was supposed to be temporary. They do the best with what they have but with his deteriating health it isn't safe and has no wheelchair accessibility. It was never meant to be a sustainable home, yet they've had no choice but to live there.
I’m his oldest, the first in my family to go to college, and I’m studying to become a special education teacher because my dad’s resilience and love taught me the importance of caring for others. I do everything I can to help him. I’ve even bought him a car and send money each month, but it’s not enough. He deserves a safe, livable home where he can take care of my siblings without risking his health.
I’m asking for your help to give my dad and siblings a better, more stable life. Every donation, no matter the size, goes directly to helping them move out of unsafe conditions into a home that’s accessible and sustainable for the long term. My dad is too headstrong to ever ask for help so I'm asking on his behalf because I want to help my family more than I could ever do alone, especially going into my senior year with just a part time job.Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and thank you for helping me give back to the man who has always given everything for us.
