A New Beginning for our Terp

In 2007, the 173rd Airborne Brigade deployed to the mountains of Northern Afghanistan. The Battalion responsible for re-supply, commanded by my husband and headquartered in Jallalabad, worked together with Afghani Nationals. "Rock" was my husband's interpreter. We are not using his real name to protect his family back home but those who have worked with him will know who he is.
Like many Afghan people, Rock was called to help the Americans in their fight against the Taliban and he knew the dangers he would face. Rock, as many of his fellow interpreters, faced death threads and knew he could loose his life at any time. Yet he stayed loyal to my husband, his Soldiers, and all of the coalition forces they worked with. Our unit wasn't the only unit Rock supported - he had been working for the US since 2004. After our unit left, Rock stayed and worked for the US in the hopes of getting his paperwork to enter the US approved until 2009, when he was forced to leave the area.
Rock moved to Thailand in 2013 because he got married and he wanted to keep his family safe. Recently the paperwork to come to the US was approved and finally, after 13 years, he and his family arrived In the D.C. Area. Our family has taken them into our home and we plan on supporting them because it is a very small way to pay him back for all he has done for us.
We are hoping to set him up in his own apartment so he can get their new life started. Rock arrived here with his wife and 3 children (all under 5 years old) with just 5 suitcases. We can support them but we can not provide all they will need. We are hoping to raise enough money so they can buy the basic items they need, i.e. beds, a couch, pots and pans, etc. They are hoping to find an apartment as soon as possible so he can get his driver's license and find a job.
I absolutely am convinced that Rock has risked his life to help our Armed Forces when they were send to Afghanistan and we are committed to making sure that he and his family be allowed to live their lives in a safe place. It is the very least we can have to do for all he has done for us!
I hope you can find it in your heart to help us help Rock and his family.
