A Mother’s Plea from Gaza

My name is Fatima Abusalah, and I am a mother of ten children. Until recently, we lived a simple but happy life in Gaza. That life was shattered when our home was destroyed in the conflict, forcing us to seek shelter in a makeshift tent on top of the ruins of what used to be our home. Now I wake up every day to the sight of rubble and the sounds of my children crying in hunger and fear.

In our tattered tent lives not only my ten children but also my eldest daughter Dina and her three little ones. We have 14 family members crammed into a single tent with no electricity or running water. My sons, who once dreamed of becoming engineers and teachers, have been out of school and university for two years due to the ongoing crisis. Instead of attending classes, they spend their days lining up for bread and clean water, often coming back empty-handed. Dina’s young children do not understand why they have no bed to sleep in or why their bellies ache with hunger each night. As a mother and grandmother, nothing is more heartbreaking than watching the light in my children’s eyes dim a little more each day.

Our Struggles and Urgent Need

We have endured unimaginable hardships. Food is scarce, and I often skip meals so that my little ones can eat. Clean water is difficult to find; sometimes my children go to sleep thirsty. When one of my younger sons fell ill with a fever, we had no access to proper medical care – I could only pray and use cool cloths on his forehead, hoping it would be enough. Each day in Gaza is a fight for survival, and each night I lie awake worrying how I will keep my family safe until morning.

Despite all of this, I have tried to remain strong and hopeful. For two years, we clung to the belief that tomorrow might be better, that we could return to a normal life. But with our home gone and the conflict only getting worse, I have come to a painful realization: we cannot survive here much longer. My children deserve peace, safety, and a future – things that are impossible to find if we remain in this war-torn place. This is why I am reaching out for help. I cannot do this alone – we urgently need to evacuate from Gaza and start rebuilding our lives in a safe place. It is a step I never imagined I would have to take, but a mother will do anything to save her children.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

Your kind donations will directly help rescue my family from these desperate circumstances and give us a chance at a new beginning. Every dollar will be used carefully for our most urgent needs:

• Evacuation and Travel Costs: We need funds to secure safe passage out of Gaza for my entire family. This includes travel documents, transportation for 14 people, and any necessary fees or visas to reach a safe country. Getting so many of us out is expensive, but it is the only way to save my children from harm.

• Temporary Housing and Basic Necessities: When we evacuate, we will need a roof over our heads in our new location. Donations will help pay for temporary shelter (such as rent or a refugee housing fee) and essential needs like food, clean water, and clothing for my children. After living in a tent, just having walls and a warm bed will be life-changing for us.

• Medical Care: Several of us need medical attention. The stress and malnutrition have made the children weak, and some suffer from trauma-related nightmares. We will use funds to see doctors, buy medicine, and get health check-ups for the kids (including Dina’s little ones) so we can start healing our bodies and minds.

• Education: My greatest wish is for my children to return to school and for my older sons to continue their university studies. We will allocate part of the funds for school supplies, uniforms, and any tuition or fees needed to enroll them in schools once we are safe. Education is the key to my children’s future, and I want to see them learning and laughing in a classroom instead of wandering in a conflict zone.

• Rebuilding Our Lives: Finally, your support will help us rebuild our lives from scratch. This could mean putting a deposit on a permanent home where my family can feel safe, or buying necessities like beds, blankets, and kitchen items. It will also help with finding work or training for me and my older children so we can become self-sufficient again. We don’t want to rely on aid forever – we just need a helping hand to stand on our feet after losing everything.
