A Mindful Move - For our heroes of the Himalayas

Imagine walking 8 hrs a day, then add 30kg to your back, then an altitude of 3000+ and thousands of steps. Unimaginable by many, the daily cost of a Porter in Nepal.

Inspired by Oscar and his journeys through the Himalayas in Nepal. Spending over 5 months in Nepal and of which 3 months in the mountains, he witnessed the power and value of the unseen heroes in these mountains; the porters. Seeing the smiles the men carried at their rest stops, greeting everyone with a smile. And the next moment carrying from 20 to 80kg on their backs, so that the trekkers can all enjoy the beauty of the mountains. After watching the documentary “the Porter”, it gave so much more perspective on the life of a porter.

Working super hard in high-season so that they could compensate it with the off-season period. Having enough money to buy groceries, those that they do not produce themselves. A tough life, earning around 1500NPR per day, estimated around €12,- for a full day of walking, heavily packed. From this money they still have to buy their food and lodging. Little is left, so the only true gain comes from the tips from the tourists. As you may be able to imagine, this fluctuates constantly, which makes a gamble every single time.

Therefore, buying shoes or gear of high quality is not on top of their priority list. That is taking care of the family.

This is exactly the reason we are reaching out to them, to provide them with quality shoes that have been donated and a fundraiser. To let them know they’re being seen and being valued for their work, and if we can help them make it a bit easier, we will.

So here we are, an initiative by A Neverending Journey & Co. focused on the unseen heroes. To give them a shoutout and offer our support for their caring nature, their hard and seen work.
