A Loving Home & Ready Mother

Donation protected
In celebration of my Birthday, I am seeking to accomplish a dream and mission God placed on my heart years ago, my purpose – motherhood, sharing my love and warmth with another soul. I want to share this journey with you; will you help me?

I have lived an extraordinary life, with a multitude of experiences, been exposed to varying cultures, and am resilient in dealing with life’s inevitable challenges. I understand that it is important to allow children to teach you how their unique brain works (children’s minds, talents, and gifts are evident from a young age).

I want my child to experience the world at a young age, to be raised with an appreciation for humanity and empathy, to dance around the house to music in exuberance and joy knowing that they are supported and loved, and to explore all things that interest them. I will nurture their gifts and their feelings of self-worth and celebrate their individuality.

My heart is boundless; my patience long. It is these desires and perspective, coupled with the wisdom gained from my parents and childhood, friends and family that will make me a great mom.

MOTHERHOOD

I have thought about being a mother every day for the last fifteen years. I have always been very clear on what type of environment I want my child to grow up in, the energy, smells, feelings and the type of mother I want to be. It was the inner voice that told me at 4 years old to swaddle my baby doll, Christmas, up in ways I had seen my mother do with my younger brother many times before.

My journey into motherhood began to evolve when I was very young. My desire to have a child, to be mother never waned, rather, it deepened. A few years ago, I found myself recalibrated and back on the path designed from my youth, which my mom gingerly reminded me I started on at five years old.

As I was discussing my yearning to become a mother on the phone with my mom one day and various challenges along the way, she asked, “do you want to be a mother or do you want to be pregnant?” I was silent, taking in the sting and significance of her question.

She softly continued and recounted an exchange we had in the car on the way home from school when I was five. “Out of nowhere one day,” she stated, “You said, ‘Mommy, I am going to adopt my kids, because there are so many children who need homes and so, why would I have a baby, when God already has one for me?’”

She sweetly asked me if I remembered that conversation. I did. I remembered that my mom and I then argued a bit; yes, I was a young debater. She insisted that I did not understand what I was saying; I was only five. Trying to work with my young mind, she said, “Sure, adopt but also have a baby.” I told her, “No, I want to be a mother...that does not mean I have to have a baby.”

During this conversation years later, my spirit returned to the purpose I was born with. I refocused on the what, not the how.

It is with this clarity in direction and purpose that I am joyfully working to adopt and raise an amazing and vivacious child.

JOY

I really enjoy and love children, and they gravitate to me. Since I was young, I have worked with kids, starting day camps and programs for underprivileged children in middle school, working at camps and after-care facilities through college. I have also been very blessed and fortunate to be an auntie to many – serving in significant roles for many nieces and nephews over the years.

When my cousin went through her divorce, she had a difficult time. I moved to California for a year and helped her with her children. Our days were full, waking up around 2:30 AM every morning with little feet in my face (they climbed in my bed every night), practicing their letters, numbers, colors, playdates, meals, swimming, baking cookies, and snuggling before dinner, bath and bedtime (filled with lots of bedtime stories about the Little Mermaid.

I have played “nanny” to countless friends with newborns, staying with them during the week to help at night.  I am “Auntie” to many, setting up racetracks, playing soccer, making slime, baking cookies, and living and breathing love for the many children in my world.

Now I want to fulfill my dream of being a mom. Although I cherish my relationships with all the children now in my life, I yearn for the chance to shower my own child with love, opportunity, and support. My life will be more complete and joyful if I can fulfill this destiny and give my child the gift of nourishing a spirit that grows into a force.

YOU

To successfully adopt requires the completion of a long list of step and a great deal of patience.  I am grateful to be connected with Amanda Hawk of Adoptions Advice and Guidance who is leading me through this intricate labyrinth.

I have great faith in God and the power of prayer.  I kindly request that you join me in praying for:

·        Amanda, of Adoptions Advice and Guidance;

·        My future child and his/her birth parent(s);

·        The medical staff (the village – physicians, nurses, technicians and counselors) that will care for my future child and his/her birth parents;

·        Adoptions Together (which is working on my Home Study);

·        My assigned social worker who will conduct my home study;

·        The attorneys who will assist with processing the adoption; and

·        The ICPC (Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children) and all other agencies that will play a role in my adoption.

I would also like to invite you to be a part of my adoption through donating financially and becoming part of my child’s adopted community and family.

I am seeking to raise $30,000. The costs for adoption range from $45,000 - $55,000 for everything from state mandated home study fees and birth mother expenses to attorney and court fees.

For the past couple of years, in addition to working at a demanding non-profit job (that I perform from home), I have worked with private clients as much as possible to generate extra income so that I could have to accomplish this dream. I am also applying for grant, working on new business endeavors, and curating my life around providing a loving home and being a present parent.  I am determined to do whatever it takes and am pursuing all avenues. I am fortunate to have a wonderful support system that includes my amazing parents, family (in DC/Maryland, Georgia, and all over) and friends. My community and tribe are unparalleled.

Although I will proceed with or without donations or support, every donation will allow me to direct more of my resources to my child and provide better care, support, nourishment, resources, and academic opportunities. I hope you grant me and “my child to be” the gift of your grace and support.
