A Loving Goodbye for Megan

Hey everyone. It's Megan's daughter Tara here. As many of you know, my mom has been fighting breast cancer for over a decade. In the past few months, we learned that her cancer meds were losing effectiveness, and her cancer markers were shooting up. Most recently, she underwent full brain radiation, as well as a single round of chemotherapy on January 12, 2023. She described this round as the most painful and awful thing she has ever gone through.

After an appointment with her cardio-pulmonary specialist on January 18, she was rushed to the Scripps ER in San Diego due to a dangerous amount of fluid build-up around her heart and lungs. My mom was informed on January 18th that there was little more in the way of medical procedures that would be beneficial to her. We decided I would fly out to be with her in San Diego on January 19th and discuss next steps. My mother decided that she wanted to attempt to fly back to South Carolina to pursue hospice care and spend her final days with me and her grandson, Maverick. With God's blessing and a little help from an oxygen machine, we were able to make it across the country, unscathed.

Megan is currently at Prisma Hospital in Columbia, SC surrounded by a wonderful and caring hospice nursing staff. I am sad to report that her health is declining quickly, and the nurses have increased her pain meds to the point where she is largely unable to communicate much. She has expressed that she feels at peace and has asked that I get in contact with her friends to let them know that she loves them.

Due to the abrupt nature of our departure from San Diego, there is much work left to do to move her belongings from her home into a storage unit. I am currently 8.5 months pregnant, so this is no small task for me. Anyone who is in the SD area who is able to help, please reach out to me if you are able to assist with any heavy lifting.
