Help A Local Community Defend it's Rural Character
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Paul Speering, and I am representing a group of Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire Residents who are steadfastly opposed to the building of an exclusive private school for 1,200 students on our doorsteps in picturesque rural land.
This massive school, which will cater for a just a tiny fragment of the local community, has been imposed upon the residents of an established rural residential area of Oakford. There has been no consultation, and no consideration given to the detrimental impact it will have on those living nearby, some less than 50m away.
The Council and the WA government panel have already refused the application, but they are appealing the decision. To give ourselves the best chance of ensuring that the Council's original decision is upheld, we need to step up our representation and advocacy.
A very well respected legal firm that specialises in these matters has taken on our case, but, it costs money. The first stage will involve reviewing all of the literature and case law, and making initial submissions to Council to support our case, while the second stage is all about putting our argument to the WA government panel and getting them to stick with their original decision to refuse this application.
Stage 1 will be $6,990
Stage 2 will be $3,400
Total is $10,390
It is a massive development, and will have massive negative consequences for those who live in the locality, while only 1.5% of the Shire population will be able to access these exclusive facilities. They have been untruthful, and even witheld plans, but expect us to take them on their word that they will do the right thing for the nearby residents. I really have my doubts ...
