A small pencil, a BIG difference
Restore hope, one eyebrow pencil at a time
My name is Hana, and I am a student at Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) in the Radiation Therapy Program. As part of my program, I am required to complete volunteer work, and I chose to organize a service project that gives back to cancer patients in our community.
Cancer treatment often causes patients to lose not only the hair on their heads but also their eyebrows. This change can deeply affect how they see themselves, impacting confidence, self-esteem, and identity. That’s why I partnered with the Integrative Oncology Division for a service project after I learned about their urgent need for their Care and Cosmetics Program.
This amazing program provides free self-care classes to cancer patients and survivors across Western Pennsylvania (from Canonsburg to Erie). Each participant receives a cosmetics travel bag filled with items like concealer, eyeshadow, mascara, and lip gloss, plus tips on cosmetics and head wraps. They also get the chance to learn from a licensed cosmetologist, certified esthetician, and clinical staff—creating an experience that restores dignity, confidence, and a sense of normalcy during treatment
The Need
Right now, the program is running out of eyebrow pencils, an essential part of the kits that directly helps patients cope with eyebrow hair loss. Without them, the program cannot provide a complete kit to each participant. Something so small can make such a big difference giving patients the confidence to see themselves again
The Impact
With your donation, we can provide ELF Eyebrow Pencils (an approved brand) at the cost of 2 for $5.
Our goal is to raise $200, which will purchase 80 eyebrow pencils.
If we exceed this and reach $500, we will be able to support 250 cancer patients through the program. The more we raise, the more we can give back!
Imagine the impact—250 people receiving not just makeup, but a boost of confidence, hope, and comfort during their cancer journey.
To honor the generosity of this community, I will include the names of everyone who donates when I deliver the pencils to the Integrative Oncology Division so the staff and patients know this gift came from many caring hands.
The Urgency
Supplies are running out now, and the program does not have enough to last through the year, especially with the holidays coming up. Our timeline is short:
- Fundraising runs until September 22nd
- Purchases will be made by September 26th
- Donations will be delivered to the Integrative Oncology Division by October 6th (before their last in person class on Tuesday, October 7th)
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Together, we can ensure that every cancer patient and survivor in this program receives the full care and confidence this program is designed to provide.
Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help us spread the word. Together, we can make a difference, one eyebrow pencil at a time.
Thank you kindly,
Hana
