A Life in Sweden Torn Apart: Help Bring Them Home
Donation protected
Dear Friends and Kind Strangers,
My name is Adam, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea to support my son’s best friend, Muhit, and his family during this devastating time.
Muhit’s Story
Muhit was born in Sweden in 2013 after his parents arrived here in 2012 when his mother was pregnant. For the past decade, Sweden has been the only home he’s ever known. He’s a kind, gentle boy with an infectious smile. He attends local schools, plays football with his friends—including my son—and brings joy to everyone around him.
The Struggle
Unlike many countries, Sweden doesn’t grant automatic citizenship to those born on its soil. Muhit’s family has been entangled in the complex asylum and residency process since their arrival. They’ve faced a rollercoaster of approvals, denials and lengthy appeals, moving around Stockholm wherever they could find a place to rent. Two years ago, they settled into our community, and Muhit and my son eventually became inseparable through their shared love of football.
Muhit’s father was denied a work permit and moved to Hungary, where he now works in a factory to support his family, visiting them whenever possible. His mother works tirelessly as a hotel cleaner, often taking on double shifts to meet their basic needs. They are proud, strong, and hardworking individuals who have done everything to protect and provide for their only child.
The Unthinkable Happened
Just a week before their departure, we learned that Muhit and his mother were moving to Kazakhstan—a country foreign to Muhit. It was only a day before they left that we discovered this wasn’t by choice but a forced deportation. They were given only four weeks to leave behind their home, friends, classmates, and the life they’ve built here.
Their struggles were kept private out of pride and perhaps a belief that they could navigate this alone. They didn’t ask for help, but now they desperately need it, and we are determined to do everything we can to support them.
Our Mission
We managed to arrange a meeting with a respected lawyer the day before their departure, but there was no immediate legal recourse to halt the deportation. There are still legal avenues to explore, but quality legal representation is costly, and the family cannot afford it.
How You Can Help
We are raising funds to:
• Secure Legal Representation: To hire an experienced lawyer who can help overturn the deportation and bring Muhit and his mother back home to Sweden.
• Cover Housing Costs: They are obligated to pay for their Swedish apartment for the next three months, despite not being able to live there.
• Support Basic Needs: They have moved in with relatives in Kazakhstan and have only what they could carry in a suitcase.
A Plea from the Heart
My heart breaks for Muhit and his family. No child should be torn away from the only home they’ve ever known. It’s unimaginable that a country as compassionate as Sweden would allow this to happen to a child who simply wants to continue living his life among his friends and community.
