Our congregation of 450+ members may soon have no permanent place to
worship. We are urgently raising $1,500,000 to secure a lasting spiritual home.
OUR STORY:
For 11 years, Felege Hiwot Saint Gabriel Monastery Ethiopian Orthodox Church has been blessed to worship in a shared basement space. What began with 50 members has grown—by God's grace—into a thriving community of more than 450 people. While we are deeply grateful and privileged for the years of growth this space allowed, we face an urgent reality: Our lease is no longer being renewed on a long-term basis, moving to a month-to-month arrangement. This means we face constant uncertainty and could be asked to vacate with limited notice, making long-term planning for our growing community, youth programs, and sacred services extremely challenging. We may soon have no permanent place to gather.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Our community has outgrown our current facility, creating challenges that impact our spiritual life and safety:
- Worship Restrictions: Due to noise constraints in the shared facility, we are often restricted from using drums, sound amplification, or traditional incense during services.
- Safety & Accessibility: A single entrance creates significant concerns for our elders and families trying to access or exit the space.
- Lack of Infrastructure: Parking is extremely limited, and we lack dedicated classrooms for youth tutoring, counseling, and clergy training to nurture our future leaders.
- Sacred Space: We require a secure, permanent home for our sacred arks (tabots) of Saint Gabriel and Saint Arsema, which are central to our worship and spiritual identity.
OUR VISION: DAGMAWI KULUBI
We are raising funds for a down payment to secure a permanent sanctuary. This sacred home will allow us to:
- Worship freely in a dedicated permanent space without restriction.
- Provide a safe and accessible environment for elders and families.
- Educate and mentor our youth and newcomers through dedicated programs.
- Train future deacons, priests , Servants and future leaders within our own permanent facility.
- Build a lasting spiritual foundation for generations, fostering faith, paving the way for newcomers and community growth.
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a stable home where our faith, children, and community can thrive for centuries.
