A House for a Warrior and Her Family

Donation protected
Kelly Sherman-Conroy, Ph.D., has been a powerful presence in the Twin Cities for years. Lakota, Lutheran, mother, and natural pedagogue, she has given much of herself to many people over the years. Now it’s our turn to give back and be the body of Christ for her. Kelly has just bought a house for herself, her son Ciaran, and her mother Joann. She worked hard to save for the down payment and the many other expenses that come with buying a home: moving, home repairs, and other unplanned costs that will arise. We are committed to raising $15,000 for Kelly so that her new journey of home ownership can begin knowing that she can cover all these costs with ease. Give $30, $60, $100, everything you can so that a generous, powerful leader has a place where she can build a future for herself and her family.

FULL STORY
Dr. Kelly Sherman-Conroy, Mato Wašté Winyan, or "Good Bear Woman," is a member of the Oglala Lakota Nation. Her passion for social justice, racial reparations, healing, and storytelling has made a deep mark not only on her community in the Twin Cities area, but all over the United States and the world. And even when deep in her academic studies–she is the first Native Woman Theologian with a Ph.D. in the ELCA–she always rises to the occasion to give help to any who need. Her advocacy for racial reparations and marginalized communities has changed the minds and hearts of those both within and outside of the church.

She has worn many hats–as a missionary in the UK, as a prominent leader in faith spaces and organizations in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, not to mention speaker and professor–but her most important is as a community teacher. For instance, consider the Interfaith Movement Chaplains whose presence guided the Twin Cities during the early unrest after the murder of George Floyd. If you know one, she trained them–over 400 of them in total. Concerned about youth? She is the director of the Multicultural Youth Leadership Initiative for the ELCA and is on the Board of Directors for the Youth Ministry Network of the ELCA.

Currently Kelly is primarily self-employed and earns most of her income through teaching, speaking, consulting, and writing. Once we raise these funds for Kelly, she can cover many of her moving expenses, giving her some time she needs to settle into her new home and plan for her future.

Consequently, it is up to us, those of us who love Kelly, to be the body of Christ for her. Please give and give generously–$100, $200, $1000–do so and help us bring this fundraiser to a swift conclusion.
