This will be our third year heading to Baja to help build a home for family in need. However, it is the first year we are organizing it all on our own and we are hoping you be a part of this life changing experience!
Baja Bound is the program that has been building homes for the working poor for over 25 years. The families buy the land via a payment plan with Baja Bound, but they could never earn enough money to buy a house even working long hours in the fields daily. That is where we all come in!
We change this living space into...

this!!!

So many of the illnesses seen in children in Baja are respiratory issues caused by sleeping on dirt regularly. Providing a shelter keeps the whole family healthier, raises their standard of living tremendously and shows them that they are valued. Baja Bound also has a strong educational program where the children are provided the resources they need to break their families out of poverty.
It is truly an amazing experience for adults but what I have loved most about our past two trips is how the experience has affected our kids. On our first trip, Tomás asked to give the ball he brought to play with, to one of the kids receiving the house. It seems like a very small gesture. However, after playing with him all weekend he realized, on his own, how important it is to give to others. The kids really do work a lot on the house, but they also build relationships with the neighborhood kids and their own small world becomes bigger.

The families work right along side us, sometimes sacrificing full days of pay to contribute tho their home. We have been overwhelmed by their desire to show their appreciation. One day the father bought soda and chips for all of us, which again seems like a small gesture, but considering he made $20 for a whole 12 hour day in the fields it made our hearts burst.

Baja Bound provides all of the materials and a contractor to lead the build for $7,700. This is for a house with two rooms, a loft and a living room/kitchen. We do have the option to give the family an outhouse, a water tank, stove or solar panels or other extras but these all have extra costs.
We are heading down for this trip October 18th-20th. We have made our goal of $1,000 by August 23rd to pay for the concrete foundation!!! Thank you! Please help us reach our total home goal of $8,000 by donating, sending this link to your friends and family and sharing it via social media. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful community. We can't do this without you! Please make this dream a reality and help us change the lives of a hard-working family in Baja.
