A home for Daniel “let’s make miracles!”

My name is Dane McCartney and I’m calling on everyone to help. Even if it isn’t with money and all you can give is a prayer and a share, that is something.

Driving home, I saw a man removing his life’s belongings from a storage shed and I felt impressed to stop. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was moving. That was it, and then he continued to talk to me and ask about me. He was so sweet and kind, and we talked like old friends. We completed our conversation and I left.

Three weeks later, I was visiting a property I own which houses a community center for less fortunate people in the area and noticed some beautiful new landscaping in the front. Confused, I asked the tenant who did this and she said a nice old man had done it all for free! Even more confused, I questioned the tenant more intently. I found out that this old man was the man I had talked to three weeks earlier and his name was Daniel! He had received a ticket from the city for having some of his belongings on the side of the road as he moved out. Except I learned that he wasn’t just moving out; he was being evicted because he couldn’t pay rent.

My tenant became friends with Daniel and over the course of a few weeks, she learned a lot about him from people in the close community.

She found out he couldn’t afford to pay the ticket, so he was sentenced to perform community service and the United Way center was within walking distance, so he added landscaping/flowers to beautify the front of the United Way building that I own.

She also found out that he had nowhere to live and a very kind neighbor is currently letting him stay at his house for a short time.

She shared that Daniel was involved in a car accident a few years earlier where he sustained a severe brain injury and during the recovery process, he gave power of attorney to his siblings and they took his life savings and then left him completely alone.

At this point in the story, I was nearly in tears when I walked outside to see Daniel with a big smile on his face adding the last few touches to his community service. He expressed gratitude to me for allowing him to do work on my building and said, “Hey, I remember you!” He smiled and never mentioned his situation or complained at all. He then asked me if he could do anything else for me on the building! Needless to say, my heart was bursting with all kinds of emotions and still is writing this.

The picture you see of him is the only picture I could get where he was attending an event at the local library to support the underprivileged in the community. The balloons you see in the background were brought by Daniel with the little money he makes from odd jobs wherever he can make a few bucks.

My tenant added that Daniel stops by every so often to see if he can help her with anything even though his community service is complete.

Daniel's living situation is very temporary and every dime of this money will be used to find a long-term housing solution for him.

This is the season to give. God brought me to Daniel and now I’m bringing Daniel to you. Give, pray, or share. Let’s be a miracle for Daniel! Please help.
