A home for Andrea, Danny & Sapphire

If we can do one good thing today -it is this.  We can help move a mom who's pregnant with triplets who's been living on the streets with her smart, curious and adorable 6 & 7 year old kids - to get into a permanent, stable situation.

I met Andrea, the 36 year old mom of Danny, 7 and Sapphire, 6 - through a friend who was working as a contractor with FEMA in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Andrea is a recent transplant to New Orleans, she moved her with her kids in April 2021, leaving a really difficult situation behind in Philadelphia, PA, where she's from. She and her kids were living with her partner in a motel in Metairie, but he overdosed shortly before Hurricane Ida hit in August 2021. After his death they fell behind on payments at the motel and were thrown out. They didn't qualify for FEMA aid since they'd moved to New Orleans recently and did not have a permanent address, only the motel address where they'd been staying. So they ended up on the streets of New Orleans.

They'd been living in a tent by the Broad Street overpass ramp onto Earheart, when my friend Aurea, the FEMA contractor - posted their story, asking for help & resources in the New Orleans Mutual Aid Group that has helped so many.  To put it mildly, it did not sit well with me that such young kids and a pregnant mom were living in a tent on the streets of New Orleans, so I got in touch via cell and went over with a bunch of supplies. Andrea is smart, kind and fighting to get her kids out of a really difficult situation and her kids could not have been more smart, cute and polite - they are a great family, and they need to get to a better spot. I am a member of a wonderful NOLA Moms Facebook group, Friends with Babies & Kids. I posted there looking for more help - there was an outpouring, moms donated supplies, money etc., and one generous person lent her Airbnb out until her next guests arrive the morning of Fri. 10/1.

So now we are trying to get Andrea & her kids into a permanent situation so they can have some stability and move forward. Please consider a donation of any size as they'll all add up to a better future for this family. They're also looking for a used computer so if you have one to donate, please let me know! All funds will go directly to Andrea & her kids. My role in this, which GoFundMe requests I note, is just as someone who wants to help good people who need goodwill and a helping hand.

Thanks for reading this & considering helping out.
