A HOME FOR AMANDA SMITH AND HER FOUR SONS
Westland, Michigan

Amanda Smith is a neighbor and a local mother. She is a single mom with four, young boys and is in need of our help. Amanda and her sons were recently evicted from her father’s residence when he failed to make his monthly payments. They have no other family and no place to call home. This family of five is currently living in spartan conditions at a local Detroit shelter (Samaritas house). They can stay for only up to another 80 days. Compounding Amanda’s situation, this young mom suffers from a mild cognitive impairment.

Prior to the eviction, Amanda registered two of her four sons at Schweitzer Elementary in Westland, Michigan. The Principal at Schweitzer, who is a friend of ours, has been assisting Amanda through proper channels. The boys were just getting settled into a routine when this pandemic took over our world by headlining the news, closing our schools, and changing daily life. A few weeks ago, Amanda just needed a safe place to shelter and a school where she could send two of her four boys. Now she needs a home.

The four boys are darling. The oldest, Eric, age 11, is in the 4th grade. He is polite, quiet, and acts much older than his 11 years. Edward is in 3rd grade. He is autistic and attends a special school, Berger Elementary, in Garden City.  Eli is in 1st grade and is in the same school as his brother Eric, which is Schweitzer Elementary in Westland. The youngest son is Ethan, a 4-year-old preschooler.

Amanda is willing to work and will be able to seek employment once her youngest son, Ethan, enters Kindergarten this upcoming fall. She receives $800 a month from Social Security. Twice she has tried to lease a home in a nearby trailer park, but both times she was declined. Understandably, she would like to stay in the school district where the boys just enrolled, as she is forging strong bonds. One helpful parent at Schweitzer has located a mobile home park with units for sale within the district of Wayne-Westland (Canton), and he is willing to help with the particulars of purchasing a mobile home.

This is where WE come in.

WE are the ones who can do something to change not only Amanda’s life, but the lives of her four, young sons. WE can use our time, talents, and treasure (that means our money!) for a great purpose. Changing lives is what matters.  WE can change five lives!

Let’s raise $10,000 for the purchase of a mobile home ($5,000) and one year of lot fees ($400 per month for 12 months) for Amanda and her four children.

Please give generously and quickly to Amanda, Eric, Edward, Eli and Ethan.

WE can give her a place to call home.

Gratefully,
Tracey & Paul Gurizzian
