Hi everyone,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Cleopatra ('Cleo') Nxumalo, and I am a 34-year-old mother of two wonderful boys, Kagiso, who is 9, and Keletso, who is 3. We originally hail from South Africa, but for the past two years, we've been navigating life in various refugee accommodations around Dublin.
Since our arrival in Ireland, we've been awaiting confirmation of our refugee status, which has unfortunately left me unable to work and contribute to the Irish community we wish to be part of. Recently, we received a deportation order that could force us to return to South Africa—a prospect that fills us with much anxiety and sadness.
Kagiso and Keletso love Ireland, as do I, and we firmly believe that Ireland is where we can be safe, grow and contribute positively to Irish society. According to Section 3(11) of the Immigration Act, the Minister for Justice has the authority to amend or revoke a deportation order. We have compelling new information (or "substantial grounds") that was not available when the initial order was issued, and both my legal support and I are optimistic that we have the grounds for appeal.
However, the financial burden of this process is daunting. Legal fees are not covered by the Irish government at this stage, and I find myself unable to afford a solicitor to guide us through this challenging process.
Today, I humbly reach out to you, hoping to draw on the kindness and generosity that so many of you have already shown us. Any contribution you can make—no matter how big or small—would mean the world to my family and me.
If financial support is not possible at this time, I would be deeply grateful if you could share our story with others. Raising awareness about our situation could open new doors for us.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration and support.
With love and gratitude,
Cleo and family xxx
