Help Barbara Keep Hope Alive for 12 Orphaned Children in Africa

For the past five years, Barbara, from Crosspool, Sheffield, has quietly dedicated her time, energy, and resources to supporting Mirabel, a remarkable woman in Africa who cares for 12 orphaned children and helps many other vulnerable children in her community.

Every day, Mirabel provides these children with essentials that many of us take for granted—food, clothing, school supplies, and access to education. She believes that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a brighter future, regardless of their circumstances.

Inspired by this mission, Barbara has worked tirelessly from her home in Sheffield, collecting donations of clothing, toys, stationery, and non-perishable food. Every six weeks, she carefully sorts, packs, and arranges for these much-needed supplies to be shipped to Africa.

In December 2025, Barbara went one step further by helping Mirabel establish a small charity shop in her local community. The shop enables Mirabel to sell donated items and raise funds to support the children throughout the year, creating a more sustainable source of income for their care.

Despite not being a registered charity, Barbara has continued this work purely out of compassion and kindness. She has stored donations in her own garage, personally organised shipments, and covered many of the associated costs herself.

Unfortunately, the rising costs of transport and international shipping now threaten this lifeline. As Barbara has grown older, organising fundraising events and promoting her work on social media has become increasingly difficult. Yet her determination to help these children has never wavered.

That is why we are launching this GoFundMe campaign.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help cover shipping costs, purchase essential supplies, and ensure Mirabel can continue providing food, clothing, school materials, and hope to the children who depend on her.
