Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers,

I come to you with a heart full of hope and a humble request.

This is for one of my dearest friends, Marelize du Plessis — a beautiful soul, a qualified nurse, a dedicated wife, and an incredible mother of three boys.

Marelize and I studied nursing together in Bloemfontein, South Africa, from 1995 to 1998. We shared years of hard work, dreams, and friendship. Life took us on different paths, but my heart never stopped caring for her — and right now, she and her family need our help more than ever.

Marelize married Bennie, and they live in Kuruman, South Africa, raising three wonderful sons. Their eldest will be in Year 12 next year, and their youngest is just a day older than my twins, Emma and Anthony. Like so many families in South Africa, they are struggling financially, carrying heavy debt, and facing a future that feels hopeless.

But there is a way forward.

Marelize dreams of coming to Gladstone, Australia, where we can support them and offer a fresh start — a future full of opportunity and safety for their children. As a qualified nurse, she has the skills. What she doesn’t have is the means.

The cost just to get her registered as a nurse in Australia is $10,000 AUD, covering:

If we can raise $10,000, it will already be LIFE-CHANGING. This will open the door to Marelize registering as a nurse and beginning the path to Australia.

✨ But if we could reach $17,000, we can also help them apply for a DAMA visa, which would allow the entire family to move here legally and start their new life together. The DAMA visa costs around $7,000 — and it would be THE BEST gift we could ever give this family.
