A Fresh Start – Support Our Move

Hi, my name is Genevieve, and I’m a single mum to my beautiful 10-year-old son.

After almost two years of rebuilding our life following a domestic violence situation, we’re now facing another unexpected transition — one that we didn’t plan for, but one that I believe is leading us to something better.

Due to unsafe conditions in our current apartment — including long-term, untreated mould — our health and wellbeing have been affected. It’s no longer a safe space for my boy or me. After raising concerns with no real resolution, I’ve been offered a lifeline: a beautiful rental house, offered by a kind real estate manager who supported us during our DV escape in 2023.

This is a fresh start we deeply need — one with light, space, and safety.

But moving, as you know, comes with costs: rental bond, upfront rent, moving expenses.

I’ve been working casually this year while focusing on my recovery, mental health, and parenting my boy through his own healing journey. I also recently completed my university degree after nearly a decade of study on and off — a milestone I’m so proud of.

I’m not in a position to access credit or loans, and asking for financial help is not something I do easily. I’ve carried shame around this. But I also believe in the power of community and vulnerability.

✨MOVE UPDATE + HEARTFELT THANKS✨ 

We’ve officially been approved for our new home — a light-filled, safe and peaceful space with a backyard for Noah to play and breathe again.  

Our move-in date is set for Friday 13th June — and I can honestly say it’s only possible because of you. 

To everyone who has donated, shared, and supported our journey so far — thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kindness helped us secure this new beginning. 

We’re nearly there, but still need a little help to cross the finish line. As we prepare for the move this week, we are still seeking support with: 

Removalist costs 

End-of-lease cleaner for our current apartment 

️ Replacing second-hand furniture (we lost items due to mould issues, including couch, towels, linen) 

Every little bit helps. The cost of living is heavy for everyone, and the fact that so many have shown up for us despite that has not gone unnoticed. I believe with all my heart that generosity returns threefold.
