Hi, I’m Lourdes Renée Vazquez (Lulu); life has a way of changing in an instant, and for me, that happened when I gave birth after a cryptic pregnancy. I didn't know I was expecting until the moment I went into labor. Since that day, I have been fighting to be the provider my daughter deserves, but the hurdles have been relentless.
The Challenge
Being a single mother with no prior preparation was the first challenge. Since then, I’ve secured and lost two jobs because the math simply didn’t work—childcare and public transportation made it impossible to meet attendance requirements. Between the 10-hour daycare limit and a 3-hour round-trip commute on two buses, the "traditional" 9-to-5 has become a barrier rather than a bridge to stability.
As of December 1st, I have no income. To make matters more urgent, the nonprofit currently housing us has run out of grant funding. My daughter and I have to move by December 24th.
The Solution: A Path to Self-Sufficiency
I am not looking for a temporary fix; I am looking for a way to work. After weighing every option, I know that driving for Uber/Lyft is the only way to make our lives work. By renting a vehicle through their platform, I gain:
A flexible schedule that fits within my daughter’s daycare hours.
Reliable transportation for doctor’s appointments and our upcoming move.
Immediate income to keep a roof over our heads.
How You Can Help
I have the job offers and the daycare—now I just need the "tools" to start. I am seeking to raise $2,000 to cover the following startup costs:
$300: State and County business licenses.
$700: Rental car deposit and first week’s rental.
$100: Initial fuel costs to get on the road.
$900: Two weeks of rent to secure our next home as we transition on Dec 24th.
Closing
Any amount you can contribute will go directly toward giving my daughter a stable home and a mother who can work to provide for her. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing our story. We are down to the wire, but I am determined to turn this around by Christmas.
Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and for believing in us.
