Dear Kind Hearts,

My name is Bhekimpilo Mbambo. I am 48 years old, a father, a brother, and a man clinging to the last shreds of hope. For months, I’ve lain in a hospital bed, my body ravaged by a silent enemy: a cancerous mass in my stomach that stole my ability to eat, my strength, and nearly my will to survive.

This is my truth:

In January 2025, CT scans were done but doctors found nothing. By February, I was skeletal, surviving on drips, vomiting even water. By April, they finally named the monster inside me— stomach cancer—but now they say I cannot fight it unless I pay R140,000.

The hospital says non-payment means no further treatment.

No chemotherapy. No surgery. No answers from my bone scan— *they’ve locked my results behind a paywall*. Without payment, the tumor wins. Without payment, I die.

I am a foreigner here, far from Zimbabwe, trapped in a system that prices compassion. The hospital demands R120,000 for chemotherapy and surgery alone—a sum that might as well be the moon for someone like me. My family has sold belongings, my friends have emptied savings, but we are still short. Time is running out.

This tumor is merciless.

It stole my ability to eat solid food. It left me vomiting blood. It turned me into a ghost of myself. But doctors say there’s hope: chemotherapy could shrink it. Surgery could remove it. I could live to hug my children again, to work again, to *breathe* again.

But I cannot do it alone.

I plead with you— family , relatives, friends ,anyone who wants to lend a hand, mothers and fathers—to help me cross this chasm between death and life. R500 feeds the fund. R1,000 buys a day of chemo. R5,000 brings the scalpel closer to cutting this cancer out of me.
