My name is Mahmoud, and I live in Gaza with my mother, two sisters, and four younger brothers — a family of eight trying to survive the unimaginable.

Since the war began, our lives have turned into a daily fight for survival. Our home is partially destroyed, and we have no consistent access to food, clean water, or electricity. The sounds of drones and bombing have replaced the laughter that once filled our home.

Some days we eat once, and some days… not at all. My youngest brother Hussein, just two

and a half years old, often cries himself to sleep, hungry and confused. My mother, once the pillar of warmth and comfort, now hides her pain behind a brave face for our sake.

On August 1st, 2025, my father and I went out together to find food from one of the rare distribution points. It was supposed to be a short trip. But as we approached, gunfire erupted. I survived... my father did not.

He died in front of me — not as a soldier, but as a father trying to feed his children. His last act was an act of love. His absence has left a deep emptiness, especially for little Hussein, who clings to the memories of a father he may never fully remember.

During one of the most desperate days, while I was trying to secure some food for my family, I was shot by the occupation forces. The pain was overwhelming, but even more painful was the thought that such brutality had become a part of our daily reality. That wound left a scar not only on my body, but also on my soul, serving as a constant reminder of the high price we pay just to survive .

Now, at just 21 years old, I am the only man left in the family — the sole provider, protector, and hope. I wake up each day unsure of what it will bring: hunger, fear, destruction. But I still rise, because my family depends on me.
