My name is Olga Ixchop, and I come to you with a heavy heart. This Thanksgiving morning, while I was visiting family in Vancouver, WA from Los Angeles, CA, my oldest brother, Luis Ixchop, was unexpectedly detained by ICE. At the time, he was working with his partner, Abigail, doing food deliveries when two ICE vehicles stopped them. They were surrounded by seven ICE agents and forced out of their vehicle, injuring Abigail’s leg in the process. She was released, but my brother was taken without a signed warrant.

Luis was first taken to Portland, OR and quickly transferred to Tacoma, WA. We have still not received a call from him and do not know how he is doing. This is especially worrying because he has high blood pressure and an injured knee that causes him to limp.

What should have been a joyful Thanksgiving turned into a painful one, with an empty seat at the table where my brother should have been. Luis is a loving father of three children, all under the age of 15. His eight-year-old daughter continues to ask when her dad is coming home, and it breaks our hearts not being able to give her an answer.

Despite everything, we remain hopeful that this situation will have a positive outcome and that Luis will soon return home.

Esta mañana de Acción de Gracias, mientras visitaba a mi familia en Vancouver, Washington, desde Los Ángeles, California, mi hermano mayor, Luis Ixchop, fue detenido inesperadamente por ICE. En ese momento, trabajaba con su pareja, Abigail, repartiendo comida cuando dos vehículos de ICE los detuvieron. Siete agentes los rodearon y los obligaron a salir del vehículo, lesionando la pierna de Abigail en el proceso. Ella fue liberada, pero a mi hermano se lo llevaron sin una orden judicial firmada.

Lo que debería haber sido un feliz Día de Acción de Gracias se convirtió en uno doloroso, con un asiento vacío en la mesa donde debería haber estado mi hermano. Luis es un padre cariñoso de tres hijos, todos menores de 15 años. Su hija de ocho años sigue preguntando cuándo volverá su papá a casa, y nos rompe el corazón no poder darle una respuesta.

A pesar de todo, mantenemos la esperanza de que esta situación tenga un resultado positivo y que Luis regrese pronto a casa.
