In August 2014, my dad, Will Smith, lost his life in a cave diving incident at Aber Las Quarry in North Wales.

During the dive, my dad and his two friends were exploring a dry section of the quarry when they encountered noxious gases in the air. He called out that he was running out of Oxygen in his tank, but sadly didn’t make it.

The British Cave Rescue Council, alongside other rescuers, worked through incredibly difficult and dangerous conditions to recover my dad.

The British Cave Rescue Council support and coordinate volunteer cave rescue teams across the UK, providing specialist training and equipment to help save lives in some of the most challenging conditions.

All the money raised will go directly to towards helping the British Cave Rescue Council fund essential safety gear, training, and rescue equipment. Every donation helps ensure that these incredible teams can keep doing what they do best.

This charity holds a special place in my heart, and in my family’s. The people involved were incredibly kind during one of the most difficult times of our lives.

This November, I’ll be doing ‘A dip a day’ everyday, to raise money and awareness for this amazing charity. This will be done in memory of my Dad and his passion for cave diving as-well as honouring the bravery of those who dedicate themselves to helping others underground.
