Last night I happened to mention in passing on Facebook that a Diabetic Alert Dog can save the life of a T1D. Within minutes, dozens of family, friends and members of our close-knit community jumped at the chance to help. More and more people followed this lead. This outpouring of generosity and support has touched me, my family and most of all, my son, beyond explanation . There is no way we could afford DAD on our own, so we have decided to start a GoFundMe for our T1D warrior, Madmax. It has been almost 4 years since Max was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Just a few weeks after his 8th birthday, our whole world changed forever. Max battles every single minute of every single day to stay healthy while also trying to be a normal kid. He fights high and low blood sugar constantly, and most of the time he does it with a smile. He currently wears an insulin pump and sensor to help regulate his sugars, but even this incredible technology can't keep up with what his body needs all the time. There are still dangerous highs and lows-even when he does everything right!
That's why we are asking for your support for our family to obtain a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD). These amazing animals are life saving to a T1D. With extensive training, DADs are trained to detect a high or low blood sugar even before it can be read on a glucose meter. They are taught to ring a bell or wake the diabetic or wake the parent when the child is in danger. Night time is particularly scary, and the worry never ends.
There are no words to describe the fears that has become our new normal. It is truly a life-and-death struggle every day. With your support, you can help add another weapon in Max's arsenal to fight this disease and maybe even save Max's life. We are beyond grateful and humbled by your desire to be there for our boy.
His fight is our fight!!
