Northaw Community Orchard is a public green space in the heart of Northaw in Hertfordshire, run by volunteers for everyone to enjoy.

In 2014, a group of like-minded local residents created a Community Interest Company, Northaw Transition CIC with a view to creating and maintaining a community orchard. CICs are not-for-profit companies with a social interest agenda.

With the help of a Community Green Space Challenge grant, we were able to start work in 2014 on two unused and previously inaccessible fields in the heart of the village, rented from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. Thanks to the efforts of many awesome volunteers, the site was prepared and planted, We celebrated our opening day in June 2015 and our first Apple Day the following October.

In the intervening years, the orchard has continued to thrive. We have planted over 80 fruit and nut trees of all types, and created both a willow bed and wildflower meadows throughout. We hold regular events and workshops for adults and children with the aim to provide opportunities for countryside education, conservation and healthy living.

There are many expenses associated with the running of the orchard which is self-funded and maintained solely by the efforts of volunteers for the benefit of the local community. Your donation will be gratefully received towards the future running costs of this important project.

You can visit the orchard at any time and experience its tranquility, or take part in events and activities through the year.
