A Community of Love: Supporting the Belt Family's Journey

The Belt Family is devastated by the sudden loss of Leon as he departed our lives on 11/8/2024. He was a cherished husband and partner to Angela, amazing father to Brooklyn and Quincy, beloved son to Jackie and Leon Sr., brother, colleague, friend, and community contributor.

We're profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love and support they've received in so many ways. This loss is tremendous for the family, and we know that his absence leaves an immeasurable void in all of our lives—everyone who had the opportunity to create or laugh with him, or to be cared for or befriended by him.

Leon’s contagious smile could light up any room, with a spirit that welcomed everyone around him. Whether it was cheering on Angela or the kids at anything in life, sharing laughter during a family Taco Night, or quiet moments on the couch watching a movie, his deep love and supportive nature helped hold the family together.

And now, there are new normals to grapple with and become accustomed to, especially for Angela, Brooklyn, and Quincy as they navigate this unimaginable new reality and grief.

Many have asked Angela or those of us supporting her during this difficult time how to assist her and the kids, especially knowing that with Leon’s absence comes unexpected financial challenges. We thank you for thinking of the long term as we’re all dealing with the present pain and loss.

• Immediate expenses: Out-of-pocket costs associated with Leon’s medical care, like non-covered medical and unreimbursed travel expenses to Mayo Clinic in Florida for Leon, Angela, and the immediate family to say goodbye.

• Short-term needs: Mental health support and regular living expenses for the family, including maintaining extracurricular activities for Quincy and Brooklyn.

• Long-term planning: Children's education fund.
