A Community Air Purifier – Clean Air for Brighton

Hi, my name is Ava and I'm raising money with Brighton Borrowers/Brighton Library of Things CIC to buy an air purifier plus a couple of replacement filters.

This air purifier will be available from Brighton Borrowers for free, giving people and groups in Brighton the opportunity to make events and gatherings safer ✨

Unfortunately COVID and other airborne illnesses are still around, putting people's health at risk – but clean air can be the solution.

Why worry about COVID?

Even mild COVID infections cause damage – to our brains, our hearts and our immune systems.

Anyone can get Long COVID. Around 2 million people in the UK are living with Long COVID – including people who had no previous health issues, children as young as 3, people who had COVID many times before and were "fine" until they weren't.

Every infection you get increases your risk. This is especially concerning as people might not realise how many infections they've had due to up to 60% of COVID infections showing no symptoms.

The damage from each COVID infection is cumulative (they build on each other), but so are the actions we can take.

Every infection we stop » stops even more infections » which stop even more infections.

So small changes can make a big difference!

Clean Air

Just as clean water can protect us from cholera and dysentery, clean air can protect us from COVID along with other airborne illnesses and future pandemics.

Air purifiers have been shown to reduce infections in indoor spaces and also protect us from pollution. Indoor air is often 2-3 times more polluted than the air outside.

About the Air Purifier

Air purifiers with a HEPA filter are the best for cleaning the air and removing viruses and particles.

The air purifier we want to buy is the Smart Air SA600. It is suitable for a large room like a classroom (although it can be used in larger or smaller spaces as well) and uses a HEPA filter that has been third-party lab-tested.
