Hi! I am starting this for a super talented unhoused member of my community Shannon and his pup Duke
I don’t know much of his circumstances or how he ended up here today and frankly it does not matter to me. What matters is it’s freezing cold in Northern Michigan and everyone deserves to have somewhere to go home to at the end of the day without worrying that you might get kicked out at any moment.
What I do know:
- He is an incredibly talented artist and loves to paint! If you are looking for a landscape you should really consider commissioning him!
- He cannot read or write but has been proactively working on getting benefits to the best of his ability considering the circumstances (DHS has assisted in filling out some stuff).
- I will personally be helping fill out the paperwork for housing but I have no idea how long this process can take.
I have already spent several hundred dollars getting him set up with some basics (MREs, propane tanks, dog food/treats/toys (cause just look at his sweet little face he needs treats and toys too!!), clean water, gloves, socks, cash so he can sit indoors without “loitering”, etc.) but there are more expenses I simply cannot cover on my own without taking on substantial debt.
What the donations will be used for:
- A semipermanent campsite to at least get him thru winter
- Cold weather camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, warm clothes, etc.)
- Hotel money for nights that are unbearably cold (at his discretion)
- Dial a ride tickets
- PO Box rent
- Dog food/vet care if needed
I know there are things that I’m probably not thinking of or can’t anticipate. I’m also clueless as to the actual cost of most of this stuff so if I’m over asking I’m sorry that’s not my intention. I’m just a chick that feels compelled to help someone because I hope someone would do the same for me if I were in his shoes. Please be kind
