A Brighter Future for Cameroon’s Hearing Impaired

Donation protected
Meet Felicia Tendo Foinmbam, a dedicated mother of three hearing-impaired children and the visionary founder of GEVISA Vocational Centre in Douala, Cameroon. Felicia's life took an unexpected turn when she welcomed three hearing-impaired children into her world, two boys and a girl. Determined to provide them with a life filled with opportunities, she made the difficult decision to relocate from Cameroon to Kenya, where she lived in isolation from her family and friends for nearly two decades.

Felicia's unwavering commitment bore fruit as she nurtured her children into successful professionals. Gerald, her firstborn, is now a talented photographer, Sammy, the second child, excels as a graphic designer, and Victory, the youngest, showcases her skills as both a beauty artist and graphic designer.

In addition to teaching her children to speak, Felicia founded the Eden School for the Hearing Impaired in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2009. This institution empowers deaf children by teaching them to communicate effectively, enabling them to integrate into society independently. Felicia's inspiring journey has turned her into a motivational speaker, sharing her experience with parents facing similar challenges. Her story has been featured in renowned publications and media outlets, including Parents Magazine (Kenya), Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation TV, Amina Magazine in West Africa, Standard Media Kenya, and Cameroon Radio and Television (CRTV), offering hope to countless parents with special-needs children.

In February 2022, Mrs. Felicia Foinmbam returned to her home country, Cameroon, and in July 2022, she established GEVISA Vocational Centre in Douala. This center is a haven for individuals with hearing impairments and special needs, offering training in Photography, Branding, Hair, and Beauty, following her successful journey with her own children.

Felicia's vision is to create an avenue for "economic empowerment for the hearing impaired and individuals with special needs in Cameroon." She envisions this becoming a reality through the pursuit of her mission, which is "to provide a platform for persons with hearing impairments and disabilities to access job opportunities and enhance their skills in various areas, ultimately improving their quality of life."

Join us in supporting Felicia's mission to enrich the lives of the hearing-impaired community and those with special needs. Together, we can help GEVISA Centre shine as a beacon of hope and opportunity.
