Friends,
I know we have all experienced a time in our lives when our paths have crossed with a stranger and without reason or hesitation, we have immediately felt a bond and sense of ease with them. And that’s exactly what happened when we met Luis Gonzalez, landscaper extraordinaire. We knew he would leave a mark on our hearts forever because that was the embodiment and spirit of Luis. He was the hardest worker, the best father, the most devoted husband, an ambitious entrepreneur, and the one guy guaranteed to always have a smile on his face, a signature of his that his clients came to look forward to each week. His positive and calming energy radiated into the hearts of every person he talked to and interacted with on a daily basis. There was nothing you could ask him that he didn't know about a diseased plant, the different species of grass, or condition of your soil. He knew it all. He could do it all. He loved it all.
When Luis revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer, each of those who knew him were gobsmacked. It seemed impossible that a person with his heart, his drive, and his zest for life could be taken from this world. True to his nature, he quickly assured everyone he was going to kick his cancer into another atmosphere, a few rounds of chemo and bada bing, bada boom, he'd be back at the homes of his clients every week ready to tackle the next lawn projects. He would continually calm the nerves of others over the state of his health, whilst never seeking comfort or reassurance in return. Tragically, his determined mindset couldn’t offset just how quickly the cancer would soon spread. After beginning treatment, the cancer weakened his leg so severely that it broke in several places, requiring surgical intervention. Yet, as of two weeks ago, he was still texting regularly, concerned about the seeding of the grass for fall and letting us know the plans he had in store for the spring. Never once did he mention his condition was quickly deteriorating after the doctors found that the cancer had spread into his lungs. He. Remained. Selfless. He transitioned from being on oxygen to life support in a matter of days and at the end of his life, he bravely chose to say goodbye to his family without further medical intervention only to then leave this earth for the heaven above.
Luis leaves his wife, Sandra, and his four year old son, Angel behind. Luis and his family immigrated from Mexico for a better life in the USA and were successful in creating one for themselves until his untimely death altered their plans for forever. We are here now to ask for your help to secure a future for Sandra and Angel. It is our greatest hope to establish a fund to get them through the most difficult time of their lives. With the funds raised they will be able to keep meals on their table, ensure medical bills are paid, put on a happy Christmas for Angel, and forge a path forward that allows them to mourn the death of their hero without facing the financial hardships their future may pose.
We sincerely thank you for anything you are able to contribute. There is no right amount, big or small. The kindness and compassion that comes from your desire to donate speaks to the sincerity of your heart and will mean the world to this beautiful family.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
