Our family is heartbroken to share that our beloved grandma/Wife/Mom has been recently diagnosed with lymphoma cancer, followed by the discovery of a golf ball–sized brain tumor the same week. While doctors explored treatment options, additional complications arose, leaving surgery to be too risky. She is now in hospice care, where the focus is on keeping her as comfortable as possible in her final days.

For years, our grandpa Alfredo Maldonado has been by her side, caring for her selflessly while putting his own needs aside. Our grandma has unfortunately dealt with many health issues in the last 15 years, the worst being kidney failure. Thankfully in 2016, she was able to receive a kidney transplant that gave her 9 more years with us. Our grandpa made sure she got to all of her appointments, had the care she needed, and love she deserved.

He is a well-known and respected landscaper (Maldonado Landscaping) in the community for over 40+ years all over Illinois. He is someone who has always given his time, energy, and kindness to others. But right now, he is unable to work as he devotes himself fully to being with her. He doesn’t have the luxury of paid time off and should not have to worry about choosing to either work or be with his wife.

Throughout all of this, our grandpa has put on a brave face and has been optimistic and positive that she will make it through all of the obstacles that have been thrown at her.

We are raising funds to help with the overwhelming medical bills, upcoming funeral costs, and to support our grandpa during this devastating time. Our hope is that the family and community can come together to give back to a man who has spent his life giving to others, and to honor our grandma’s legacy with the dignity she deserves.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help ease this burden and allow our grandpa to focus on what matters most—spending time with the love of his life in her final days.
