We never imagined we’d have to ask for help like this, but our 13-year-old son’s safety, well-being, and future are at risk, and we can’t do it alone anymore.

For the last couple years, our son’s mental health has suffered due to a variety of issues surrounding his identity, low self-worth, and desire to be seen for who he is. He has struggled in school, and with family and peer relationships.

His current primary living environment declines to affirm his gender identity, and his feelings surrounding depression, self-worth and suicidal ideation are often downplayed or dismissed. He has continuously and clearly expressed his wish to live with us and attend school in our community, where he constantly feels accepted and seen. The lack of emotional safety, understanding and affirmation has made living there difficult for him, despite the love he has for his family there. His therapist and other professionals who know him best are deeply concerned, and so are we.

We are ready to provide him with a safe, affirming, and loving home where he can thrive. His voice will be heard, supported, and he will be encouraged to be himself. Unfortunately, custody and relocation cases come with significant legal costs, including attorney fees, court filings, and potentially emergency motions to protect his safety. These expenses must be paid upfront, and without help, they place a significant financial burden on our family.
