10 members of YML SA and Victoria will be going over to Cambodia this December to visit Sister Denise Coughlan, a Mercy Sister who has been working in Cambodia for over 30 years and began her work in Southeast Asia working in the Refugee Camps on the Thai border after the civil war. She was instrumental in the movement of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines and works with the Jesuit Refugees Service to support Cambodians who are living in extreme poverty and with disabilities to gain access to basic human rights such as housing, food, sanitary water and education.
We as a Young Mercy Links group aim to raise $9000, which will be enough to build a very basic wooden home on stilts and a toilet. Two incredibly talented Cambodian men Reth and Not who work with Sister Denise lead the housing project and will guide us through as we help to configure the flooring and walls of a home while we are there. 100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly towards building materials for the housing project, so we’d appreciate whatever you can give.
