The political establishment has failed to protect us. We face a mass extinction of species on Earth; a real risk of devastating environmental collapse. The planet could lose its ability to support human life. There is little time left: we must rebel to protect the livelihood of citizens and our natural world, or risk losing everything we cherish.
We can stop devastating climate change.
Extinction Rebellion was launched at the end of October 2018 and has quickly spread around the world. We are united by a shared desire to challenge governments to act urgently to prevent ecological breakdown. The movement has three demands and is guided by these principles.
We rebelled across five UK cities.
In mid-July, rebels from across the south-west occupied Bristol Bridge and Castle Park as part of the Summer Uprising across five UK cities.
We parked a boat on Bristol Bridge and used it for inspiring talks and amazing dance parties, because the rebellion is fun, too. The XR Youth occupied College Green to take the message to the council and mayor. We ran people's assemblies every day. We filled the streets with Bristol's biggest ever 'critical mass' cycle ride. We fed thousands of rebels and passers-by and held conversations across Bristol about the need to act now.
The rebellion continues!
The situation remains urgent. We are making a big difference: creating the space for government to take the bold action we need to turn this ship around.
Please join the rebellion to find out about our next events, via the XR Bristol website.
If you can, please help with a donation:
- £20 will pay for chalk paint to get the message out in an eco-friendly way - £50 pays for ingredients to feed rebels at a weekly meeting - £75 pays for 500 leaflets to help people learn about the crisis - £100 helps pay for a meeting room to welcome all the new rebels and plan the next steps for survival
