Here in Leander, WE SUPPORT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT! After a citywide crowdfunding effort over the summer, “We Support Our Leander Police Department” yard signs are now going up all over town. If you were unable to join us on the initial group order, this is now the official order form to get an LPD yard sign for your own front yard.
Reserve your yard sign today using the DONATE NOW button and make a donation in increments of $11 for the number of signs you would like to order.
These are double-sided, corrugated plastic signs (18” x 24”) from a local printer and the $11 cost per sign set includes the heavy-duty H-stake wire frame, sales tax, and credit card processing fees. There is no additional markup for profit for any individuals or businesses. This is a volunteer project organized by our family here in Leander. If costs get lowered due to the size of the bulk orders we place, all proceeds after raw costs will be donated to Leander law enforcement charities.
Once you have ordered your yard signs by making a donation, your reservation will be held until we hit our minimum of at least 200 yard signs per ordering period. At that time, we will place the order with the printer and that batch will be ready for pickup within a week. Local pickup times and locations will be announced for each group order when ready. Shipping will not be available as this is a family project and we are not equipped to get into the shipping business for items this size.
We are all very fortunate to live in such a safe city like Leander, and we owe a great deal of that to our local police officers. Like most police officers these days, they may be feeling a little frustrated and underappreciated with the divisive rhetoric in the national news and what is happening in cities like Austin. This is our way as a community of saying THANK YOU to our LPD for keeping us safe and letting them know how much we appreciate them during these difficult times. We hope you will join us in showing your support!
The Story of This Project
Back in June, my wife and I were discussing how we could show our support for the Leander Police Department with everything that is going on in the news these days. We were concerned about what this sort of news coverage was teaching our children. We decided it would be nice to have our kids make some posters or a card to take down to the police station to thank the officers for all that they do. Then the conversation around our kitchen table grew into exploring the idea of having actual yard signs printed up for us and our fellow neighbors to publicly show our support of the LPD.
So an idea was born and we launched this project as a citywide effort to make sure the officers and staff of the Leander Police Department know we stand by them and how much we appreciate them for keeping our families and our city safe.
Instead of fronting all the costs and hoping people would be interested, we started a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to gauge interest in the project before placing the order and to share the expense. We set a goal to order an initial batch of 200 yard signs and began promoting the campaign on social media. Public support for this project was overwhelming. By the time the Kickstarter deadline to fund the project arrived, we had raised 143% of our goal and were able to place an initial order for 350 “We Support Our Leander Police Department” yard signs that arrived on August 14th.
Once the first signs were picked up and began appearing in yards around Leander, a new wave of interest in ordering additional signs came quickly. We had a feeling this would be the case and are excited to take this project to the next level. We have moved platforms from Kickstarter to GoFundMe in order to be free of some of the timeline and funding restrictions of the former. This second campaign has the freedom to place multiple group orders as soon as we hit our own thresholds while delivering the exact same quality sign/stake sets from the first round.
We will keep this going for as long as there is an interest and backers keep joining. Please help us spread the word to your neighbors around Leander who would be interested in proudly displaying their support for our Leander Police Department.
