My dear friends, Pete and Kerry Wilson, have been in the most epic battle with the CRA. The CRA is claiming that my friends owe thousands and thousands of dollars in taxes, for money they didn't earn. 

In 2016, the Canada Revenue Agency informed Peter Wilson that they were auditing his 2012, 2013, and 2014 tax returns. At the end of the audit, he was told that he had been reassessed for those years, and they had found a substantial amount of “unclaimed” income.

For five years, he has paid legal and accounting fees, as well as “back owing” HST on the new income figures. The CRA finally agreed that $200,000 of “unclaimed” income had, in fact, never even been earned, but the “bottom line” is still grossly inaccurate.

The costs incurred to convince the CRA that they were wrong have been crushing – from professional fees to time off work. In 2020, Peter was diagnosed with a heart condition that doctors said could be related to the unbelievable stress he was under. That meant more time off work for him. Over the course of the 5-year appeal, he has had 10 different CRA representatives handling his file – and at times the file was “lost,” meaning more legal and accounting fees for the Wilsons.

Pete owns a small renovating company. He doesn’t have employees, and he makes a very modest income. The idea that he made over $100,000 a year is ludicrous. The appeal process has come to an end, and the Wilson family is facing a potentially devastating financial loss as the costs of the past five years add up.

Pete and Kerry are always there for their community. They’re the first to organize meal trains and support groups. Many of you have been touched by their kindness over the years. We need to step up for them and their kids. Even through this terrible time, they have been there for so many in our community, individuals, groups, helping the homeless, the list of their kindness is unending. For me, personally, they have been a huge support to me and my kids during so many times of difficulty, sadness, and just "life". 

They have fought for 5 years, and it has cost them terribly.

The CRA is a mammoth monster to stare down. Please donate what you can, and please share their story.

Pete is THE most HONEST contractor you'll ever meet. He works so hard, and does excellent work. He doesn't do "under the table" work. EVER. 

This has been going on for 5 years. 5 YEARS!!! I can't imagine the stress. They are on the verge of financial collapse. 

If you don't know Pete and Kerry personally, know that they are just the most down to earth, loyal, loving, faithful people you'll ever meet. They are sweet, kind, generous people. They  need our help. 

When they first told Kerry they found $300,000 of unclaimed income, she thought they would end up on the streets.  

Then she thought "My friends won't let that happen to us". She knew. She trusted us, and God to bring them through the storm. 

I'm  asking my friends, their friends, and friends of friends to help financially if they can, but also share this story with people who maybe don't know them, or me.  The figure needed feels insurmountable, but I have hundreds of friends here, and they have hundreds of friends.
