Send a Veteran to Speak About PTSD

Donation protected
My name is Nate Emery. I am a 22yr Marine veteran with combat tours in OPERATION DESERT STORM and OPERATION RESTORE HOPE in Mogadishu, Somalia.

I volunteer my time several times a year, speaking to mental health professionals who work with veterans or are interested in working with veterans.

I was first asked to speak in January of 2016 at the American Psychoanalytic Association's annual meeting. https://issuu.com/apsaa/docs/apsaa_2016_national_meeting_prelimi (pages 17-19 of 75)

In September 2016 I spoke in New York City at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (http://nypsi.org/#Event/40956)

I am raising money to cover the costs of coach travel and lodging, because until now, I have been using my vacation time and personal finances to fund these trips. I did not expect that I would be asked to speak with increasing frequency.

I have been asked to speak at the Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies on October 15, 2016. (http://www.laisps.org/uploads/5/1/4/0/51408533/16-1015_a._berry-working_with_veterans.pdf)

I will be speaking in Washington, DC on October 21, 2016, at the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies conference (https://www.istss.org/meetings-events/events-calendar/the-second-washington,-d-c-conference-on-trauma,-l.aspx) Also, see http://ListeningToTrauma.org

The Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (http://www.BPSI.org) and the Dallas Psychoanalytic Center (http://www.DalPsa.org) have expressed interest as well.

How the money will be used:
I will use the money for airfare, bus fare, and lodging only. I will post pictures of the receipts as proof of my stewardship of your hard-earned dollars, earn your trust and hopefully your support for subsequent trips.

History of this campaign:
The first goal of $550 to cover the LA trip was exceeded in less than 24 hours! The stretch goal of $1550 will pay for me to travel to the next two speaking engagements, which I will post as soon as I know the dates.

Why this means so much to me:
On average, 22 veterans and 1 service member a day commit suicide. If I can help mental health professionals learn to better help veterans, then I will feel that I am continuing to serve my country.

I sincerely thank you for whatever amount you can contribute. From here on out, when I speak to these organizations and mental health professionals, you are there with me, and I will post updates to this campaign to share the impact of your giving after each speaking engagement.

With gratitude,
Nate Emery
