VE-Global: Lifting youth, freeing hope

Hello there : )
My name is Jinit (or Jay, if that's easier). A couple summers ago, I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile. I was an explorer, and I discovered a new world. One filled with beauty and love. I discovered myself. My life hasn't been the same since. This summer, I'm going back. Except, this time, I will not be learning about healthcare and conducting clinical observations. I'll be working with at-risk and marginalized children. I'll be mentoring, teaching and providing support to kids that have been removed from unstable and unhealthy familial situations. I'll be a crutch, a smile, a laugh, a hug. I'll be there, for whatever they need.
No one chooses to be born. Those of us who are fortunate fall into the soft and welcoming folds of unconditional love. Bastions of personal, emotional and intellectual growth line the journey. If you're lucky, you live and you learn. Good fortune, like all else, is not fairly shared. Not unless WE do some sharing ourselves.
Every child deserves a chance, the opportunity to cultivate their mind, nourish their soul and radiate confidence. I want to help these children; I want to help give them the chance they deserve.
I may be a student. I may only be 21 years old. But, I've been blessed with incredible luck - both good and bad. I know what it feels like to lose everything. I know the coldness of death. I know the anxiety of poverty. I know the numbness of pain. And I know that love and wisdom, no matter how thick the dark, still shine as bright as day. If you're not convinced, read my story. Let's make the world a better place. Let's help some kids.
