I'm Harrison. I'm a twelve-year-old homeschooler from Minneapolis, Minnesota. In September 2013 my friend Emily, and her mom Elizabeth, traveled to Tanzania for two weeks to work with orphans at the Living Waters Children's Centre in Arusha, Tanzania. Emily was so excited by her experience at LWCC and made such strong connections with the kids she met there that she came home determined to raise funds for a much needed playground and she has since been successful in meeting her goal! Her enthusiasm and dedication was contagious and now I am excited to offer myself, my time and whatever skills I might have that the orphanage can put to use!
Living Water Children Centre was established in 2003 after Anza Kimaro met a six year old living on the streets and shared the story with his family. They researched the sad facts and learned that there are over 1 million orphans in Tanzania due to the HIV/AIDS and the malaria pandemic. The Kimaro's home was renovated to welcome children into their home, and family income was used to ensure that children had food, medical care and other necessities. The Kimaro family started with two children in March 2003 and is currently serving over 50.
This is an opportunity for me to be of service to people who offer so much of themselves, to learn from their example and to be an active part of the greater global community that we all share. Please pass along the information and share my page with your friends. Please help me in any way you can! No gift is too small! Help me volunteer in Tanzania!
'Urafiki' means friendship in Swahili. This idea came from a friend, I will be traveling with friends and I hope to make many more friends when I'm there!
