Unable to Reach my Children in Covid Era
To begin with, I hate asking people for help. But in the Coronavirus era, well...
My name is Robert Harris, and my children, Alex and Sydney, both live in the Philippines with their mother, their aunt, their grandfather and three cousins (including a newborn). To make a long story short, everyone in their household is out of work due to the pandemic. I send most of my paycheck every month via Paypal, because it is more convenient (or so I thought) than Western Union. Well, for the moment the payment I sent is being held up by Paypal because apparently repeated, large-scale transactions to the Philippines was flagged as "suspicious" by whatever moronic algorithm they use.
While they are waiting, there is only a day or two worth of groceries left in the house. And in the meantime, the next paycheck I will get and be able to send them is several weeks away because all my clients are in China (I'm an online ESL tutor), and they follow the Chinese habit of paying monthly instead of bi-weekly.
Thankfully, my earlier worry (namely, that little Sydney was going to need dental surgery) turned out to be a false alarm, but it is still going to be the 10th of next month before I am able to send money again, since my last payment is still bogged down in Paypal. What I am trying to do is scrape together enough money to send a W.U. money order for groceries before then.
To anyone who lends aid, you have my sincere gratitude (and that of my children), and God bless.
