UMDCSEC Southern Poverty Law Center Fundraiser
The University of Maryland Cybersecurity Club (UMDCSEC) is a student-run organization whose mission is to bring cybersecurity education and opportunities to our campus and the surrounding community. In doing so, we set forth to promote an inclusive, respectful, equitable, and supportive learning environment for our club members.
As such, we refuse to sit idle while those in our community face systematic oppression on a daily basis.
Our group is deeply saddened and outraged by the murder of George Floyd and the countless other episodes of racial discrimination that results from insufficient police accountability, systematic racism, and inequity. UMDCSEC stands with the African American community and the peaceful protestors around the world against police brutality.
We also acknowledge that an official message is not enough - UMDCSEC is organizing an online fundraiser to support local organizations who promote diversity, racial equality and inclusion. We're establishing a GoFundMe through which all donations will given to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a non-profit organization focused on supporting victims of racial bias and injustice. We hope that this effort will contribute to those affected by racial inequity and making our community and country a better and safer place for everyone.
