In Philadelphia, thousands of Higher Ed workers are employed for one term or year at a time, with no guarantee of continued employment and often no benefits. Nationally, over 25% of part-time adjunct faculty use some form of public assistance to supplement their wages - wages that don’t come anywhere close to meeting a basic standard of living. With rolling government shutdowns and programs like SNAP coming under attack, higher ed workers often need more access to support.

In addition to supporting contingent faculty and staff to win improved working conditions through collective bargaining, United Academics of Philadelphia union members are committed to building community and developing resources to support each other.

We’re grateful to Bradley Philbert, a former UAP Vice-President, for hosting this GoFundMe to help provide emergency financial assistance to Philadelphia Higher Ed workers.

Funds will be distributed into United Academics of Philadelphia’s Solidarity Fund, which addresses needs and financial burdens arising from emergency hardships. Contributions to this GoFundMe will be earmarked for Higher Ed workers who apply for emergency aid to address urgent financial hardships. The UAP Emergency Fund is administered by a committee of UAP Members, all Philly Higher Ed workers, who disburse funds via a simple application process.

Once we have raised $5,000 we will be opening up our Emergency Fund Application process!

We encourage workers and allies who want to support Philly Higher Ed contingent faculty & staff and their families to contribute to this fund. While we are grateful for community support and that of our siblings in labor, we cannot and will not accept any financial support from employers, employer-side labor relations experts, advisers, or consultants, nor will we accept any contributions from anyone who is an agent of an employer or who is acting in the interest of an employer. Contributions from such individuals should not be made through this GoFundMe and will not be accepted if they are. For any questions concerning the source of contributions, please contact the sponsor of this page.
